BJP MP Nishikant Dubey Demands ‘Privilege Proceedings’ Against Rahul Gandhi

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Tuesday called for privilege proceedings against Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, accusing him of “shamelessly distorting historical and substantive facts” and attempting to lower the prestige of the Republic of India. Dubey sent a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla urging the initiation of the proceedings after Gandhi’s remarks during the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address.

Key Points of the Allegations:

  • Distortion of Facts: Dubey claimed that Gandhi’s speech included several inaccuracies and misleading statements, such as:
    • Asserting that mobile phones are only assembled in India, not made.
    • Alleging that China is forcibly capturing vast regions of India’s Eastern territory.
    • Mentioning that India was not invited to the US Presidential inauguration of Donald Trump.
    • Criticizing the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections.
    • Raising concerns over the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner and other election officials.
    • Calling for a caste-based census.
  • Lack of Authentication: Dubey reminded the Speaker that all statements made in Parliament must be verified. He accused Gandhi of not backing up his claims and failing to apologize for the alleged misinformation.

Dubey’s Request:

Dubey has urged Speaker Om Birla to take immediate action and initiate the privilege proceedings. He further suggested that Gandhi could be reprimanded through a motion during the current session of Parliament.

Additional Accusations:

Earlier, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also criticized Gandhi for allegedly misquoting the Army Chief and making false allegations about the India-China border situation during his speech. Singh condemned these remarks, accusing Gandhi of engaging in “irresponsible politics” concerning matters of national security.

This latest development further intensifies the political discourse between the ruling BJP and the Congress party, with both sides continuing to clash over key national issues.
