The Kongunadu Makkal Desia Katchi (KMDK) General Secretary, E R Eswaran, has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of being responsible for the controversy surrounding Udhayanidhi Stalin’s recent remarks. Eswaran claimed that the BJP is attempting to depict the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) as entirely against Hindus, and that it manipulates situations to make DMK leaders comment on them.
Eswaran, whose party is an ally of the DMK and a member of the INDIA bloc, stated, “This is the plan of the BJP. The BJP is trying to project the DMK as 100% against Hindus. But that is not the situation… Everything is politics. We have to be very careful, and we should not get into this trap. We have to think about the growth of the state.”
The controversy emerged following Tamil Nadu Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin’s remark at the ‘Abolish Sanatana Dharma’ conference, where he stated that Sanatana Dharma should be eradicated, equating it to diseases like dengue, malaria, and coronavirus.
Udhayanidhi’s statement has garnered widespread criticism, with BJP leaders and temple priests condemning him and demanding an apology. The BJP has accused the INDIA parties of his statement, claiming that the INDIA bloc decided on an anti-Sanatan agenda in a recent meeting.
In response to death threats made against him, Udhayanidhi affirmed that he is not afraid and is following the path of his grandfather, Karunanidhi, who also received death threats but did not back down. He stated that he is ready to face controversy and is unaffected by the statements of other leaders.
In light of the threats, the Tamil Nadu government has increased security outside Udhyanidhi’s residence.
