Andhra Pradesh CM Naidu Promises Action on Alleged Bribery Scam Involving Adani Group and YSRCP

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday revealed that the state government has obtained the “chargesheet reports” filed in the United States concerning the alleged bribery scam involving the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government and the Adani Group. Naidu promised to thoroughly examine the reports and take appropriate action based on the findings.

The charges, filed by the U.S. Department of Justice, allege that Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani was involved in a years-long scheme to bribe Indian officials with $250 million in exchange for favorable terms in solar power contracts. The allegations have been strongly denied by the Indian conglomerate.

The controversy centers around claims that government officials from the YSRCP regime received bribes from the Adani Group. Naidu, addressing the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, stated that his government would carefully study the charges before taking any steps. “I have all the chargesheet reports filed there (in the U.S.). It is in the public domain. We will study it, act on it, and inform you,” Naidu said.

Over the past five months, Naidu’s TDP-led government has been investigating alleged corruption within the YSRCP administration that occurred between 2019 and 2024.

In response to the accusations, the YSRCP dismissed the allegations on Thursday, asserting that there was no direct agreement between the state government and the Adani Group.

Naidu condemned the situation, stating that the allegations against the YSRCP and the Adani Group have tarnished the reputation and image of Andhra Pradesh. He described the development as “very sad.”

Several members in the Assembly have called for former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy to be held accountable if the charges against him are substantiated.
