AAP leader Sanjay Singh criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, alleging that Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is facing “torture” in Tihar jail under the influence of the central government. Singh also accused the jail administration of exhibiting “inhuman” behavior by denying Kejriwal’s wife, Sunita Kejriwal, a personal meeting with him.
Addressing a press conference in the capital city, Singh emphasized, “Arvind Kejriwal, who has been elected three times with overwhelming support as the Chief Minister of Delhi’s two crore citizens, is enduring ‘torture’ orchestrated by the Government of India and the Prime Minister himself.”
He continued, “There are deliberate attempts to undermine his morale, and his basic rights and privileges are constantly being eroded in broad daylight.”
Singh highlighted, “This information, which I am sharing today, may be unprecedented in the history of Tihar Jail. It’s evident that officials in any administration act as pawns following orders from their superiors.”
Speaking about the visitation rights for Chief Minister Kejriwal at Tihar, Singh explained, “As per the jail regulations, outlined in sections 602 and 605, individuals are entitled to in-person meetings within the jail premises.”
“However, when Arvind Kejriwal’s wife, visibly anxious and concerned, along with his ailing parents, attempted to meet him, she was denied a face-to-face interaction and was instead relegated to communicate through a window,” he added.
Questioning the rationale behind such treatment, Singh asserted, “This inhumane treatment is solely aimed at humiliating and demoralizing Arvind Kejriwal.”
He emphasized, “I state with full responsibility that even hardened criminals are permitted in-person meetings within the barracks, yet a three-time Chief Minister of Delhi is restricted to communicate with his wife through a glass window.”
Arvind Kejriwal is presently held in Tihar Jail under judicial custody following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate last month in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. Sanjay Singh, who was previously in jail regarding the Delhi excise policy case since October last year, was granted bail earlier this month.
Recently, Singh alleged that Tihar authorities threatened to restrict his family’s visits after conveying a message to AAP MLAs through his legal representatives. The BJP has called for Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation as Delhi’s Chief Minister on moral grounds, while AAP contends that he will continue to serve Delhi from jail as he has not been convicted in any case.
