Aam Aadmi Party Unveils First List of Candidates for Punjab Lok Sabha Elections

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) disclosed its inaugural list of eight candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Punjab on Thursday.

Among the candidates announced, five are cabinet ministers: Gurmeet Singh Khudian for Bathinda, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal for Amritsar, Laljit Singh Bhullar for Khandur Sahib, Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer for Sangrur, and Dr. Balbir Singh for Patiala.

Additionally, sitting MP Sushil Kumar Rinku from Jalandhar has been named as a candidate for the party, led by convenor Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Former MLA Gurpreet Singh has secured the ticket from Fatehgarh Sahib, while Karamjeet Anmol has been nominated to contest from Faridkot.

On February 27, the Aam Admi Party had announced its candidates for four Lok Sabha seats in Delhi and one from Haryana’s Kurukshetra constituency. Kuldeep Kumar will represent the East Delhi constituency, while former Delhi Minister and senior AAP leader Somnath Bharti will contest from the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat.

The party has chosen Sahiram Pahalwan for the South Delhi seat, and Mahabal Mishra will vie for the West Delhi constituency. In Haryana, AAP has nominated Sushil Gupta to contest from Kurukshetra.

Punjab holds 13 Lok Sabha seats, with four seats reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, the Congress-led UPA alliance secured eight seats, while the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) managed to secure four. AAP, contesting for the first time in the state, won one seat.

AAP becomes the first party in the state to announce its candidates for the upcoming general elections.
